چکیده

Compressed sensing is a state-of-the-art technology which can significantly reduce the number of sampled data in sparse signal acquisition. This paper studies the distributed compressed sensing (DISCOS) of video signals. To this end, we propose adaptive adjustments to the block-based (local) measurement rate, the frame-based (global) measurement rate, and the sparse dictionary size, thus forming an adaptive DISCOS scheme (aDISCOS). Two adjustments on measurement rates are based on the spatial and temporal sparsity that is obtained through an analysis on the block-type and the inter-frame motion, while the sparse dictionary size is adjusted according to the motion information. All analyses are implemented at the decoder side and the analysis results are sent back to the encoder via a feedback channel, yielding a low-complexity encoding (to meet the equirement of a distributed coding scheme). Simulation results show that the proposed aDISCOS achieves a superior rate-distortion performance as well as better visual quality, when compared with the original DISCOS scheme.

Energy-Efficient Sensing in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Compressed Sensing

Sensing of the application environment is the main purpose of a wireless sensor network. Most existing energy management strategies and compression techniques assume that the sensing operation consumes significantly less energy than radio transmission and reception. This assumption does not hold in a number of practical applications. Sensing energy consumption in these applications may be compa...

Dynamic measurement rate allocation for distributed compressive video sensing

We address an important issue of fully low-cost and low-complexity video encoding for use in resource limited sensors/devices. Conventional distributed video coding (DVC) does not actually meet this requirement because the acquisition of video sequences still relies on the high-cost mechanism (sampling + compression). Recently, we have proposed a distributed compressive video sensing (DCVS) fra...

Real-Time Adaptive Video Compression

Compressive sensing has been widely applied to problems in signal and imaging processing. In this work, we present an algorithm for predicting optimal real-time compression rates for video. The video data we consider is spatially compressed during the acquisition process, unlike in many of the standard methods. Rather than temporally compressing the frames at a fixed rate, our algorithm adaptiv...

An Efficient Adaptive Boundary Matching Algorithm for Video Error Concealment

Sending compressed video data in error-prone environments (like the Internet and wireless networks) might cause data degradation. Error concealment techniques try to conceal the received data in the decoder side. In this paper, an adaptive boundary matching algorithm is presented for recovering the damaged motion vectors (MVs). This algorithm uses an outer boundary matching or directional tempo...
